Testimonials and Stories of Heroes

  1. Mother Justyna writes: "As Julek suffered from a very rare disease we didn't have many friends who could understand our concerns. We were so happy that we could join a Facebook group with other PLE families from different countries. Sharing information, speaking about PLE experiences, even crying together, it was so important for us. Among them we met Deacon Frank Elchert who was always ready to help us in our struggle. He lost his beloved daughter Amber because of PLE so he was aware of the kind of support we needed. He was familiar with PLE knowing how cruel a killer it was. When Julek passed away Deacon Frank's friendship was very important. We weren't alone in this time, because we knew that there was a very special person who was praying for Julek's soul. It was not just lip service, it was not a simple "you must be strong", but a real concern as Deacon Frank went through his own tragedy too and was still mourning his daughter. We do appreciate his compassion and readiness to support the families whose children are about to leave this world..."

  2. "I believe that the first time I talked with Frank was in late 2014 or early 2015, we met through a PLE (Protein Losing Enteropathy) Support Group. A disease that his daughter Amber and my son Zach shared. I can still see myself talking with Frank on the phone, pacing my kitchen floor, that first time we spoke. He was kind, compassionate, supporting. He told me about his families story. He listened to my story. Frank supported my family and I, in ways that our friends and family could not.... He understood, as he and his family had lived the same life as we were living. Deacon Frank was there during the hardest times of our lives. To this day I feel like I can pick up the phone, or send a note, and Frank will be there. With those supportive, kind, non judgmental, compassionate words. And for all of that I am truly thankful." 3. "I met Deacon Frank through an internet support group for PLE. At the time I first met him his wonderful daughter Amber had been gone about 6 months and yet he reached out to my family despite his own pain and grief. When my daughter Becky died a month later he was always there for me to message and tell him how I was feeling. His prayers and support helped me through those first months to feel less alone. I was so thankful to know someone who had gone through the same thing I was going through." Joanne Kennel

Since my parents are elderly, I wanted to attend to help me to be prepared as best I could be for any loss of a loved one. Also to help my husband through the passing of his brother and mother within 4 months of each other. What I found through listening to the sharing of others was peace and reassurance of my faith. I am confident with God's help I can get through anything. Hebrews 11:1 "Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen." 5. "When my wife and I saw that Deacon Frank Elchert was starting a grief support group at our church, which was being sponsored by the "Amber Louise Elchert Foundation" we thought it would be a good thing to attend. My brother passed away with brain cancer and 4 months later my mom died from dementia. Since I am a very private person, I went into this with a certain amount of reservations. I'm glad I went. I learned through Deacon Frank that what I was going through and feeling was a process called grieving and that everybody goes through it. And that it is not the same for everyone. It has helped me to better deal with the sudden and unexpected death of my brother. Grief Share seems to have effected me differently then I thought it would. Through my grief, I found myself doing more soul searching. Looking to God for answers. With every lesson, I found myself relating more to my personal struggles with life and where I was at with God. Through this sole searching I have found inner peace. And with this peace, I have been better able to accept the passing of my brother. Thank you Deacon Frank and the Amber Louise Elchert Foundation for presenting and sponsoring this program. I would HIGHLY recommend it to everyone."

  6. "Letting you know of an adjustment in my life because of all of the great sessions we had together. Making me understand that the life Jesus gave to me, I must accept. He will make all of us stronger people, if we only ask him and I do every time I get a chance. Never stop doing what you do for others."

Having spent the greater part of my career assisting high school students, I am very interested in young people and their lifetime goals - your daughter was a shining example of her concern for others well being. Enclosed is a check for the Amber Louise Elchert Foundation. You and your husband are to be commended for your dedication to such a worthy cause. He certainly has been a decided asset to St Elizabeth's as well as his work with the foundation."
